     Irene called, “What’s up?”
    “Nothing much, Kokomo Girl. You?”
    “Just wondering if you’ve met someone yet.”
    “No but saw a friend today. Stopped by her shop. She’s not doing well.”
    “Oh?”
    “Told me her boyfriend is away in rehab, won’t be back for months. I almost passed out. Wanted to kiss her. But she had a customer so I left. I plan to see her again soon.”
    “Sounds like trouble.”
    “In the meantime I’m going to keep an eye on her. You know, hang out near her place and make sure nobody’s bothering her now that she’s on her own.”
    “Better ask first or she might think you’re stalking her.”
    “Can’t do. She’s one of those feminist types— too proud to accept help from anyone.”
    “Leave her alone then. She’ll be alright.”
    “Alright isn’t as good as better than alright.”
    “What do you mean?”
    “I’m going to turn her on to some new things. Passions she never knew she had— dominance and submission, consensual bondage, the wonder of giving oneself over entirely, in mind and body. When her boyfriend returns I’ll release her back to him. He’ll be amazed and thankful for the changes I made in her.”
    “What if she gets hooked on you?”
    “Hard as it will be I’ll have to dump her. I mean, he’s a great guy and he had her first.”
